Week 3 - 01/26/2026 to 01/30/2026
Welcome to the third week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I visited my parents and grandparents on my dad’s side at home.
Monday (January 26) was the eleventh day of my internship, and
there were some issues related to the scanner’s availability that were caused
by glitches and miscommunication with other users who reserved it. This was
noted by the other team members at least once in our Apple Messages chat (new
smyrna), although I did not comment due to a lack of knowledge. All of this
actually took place before my shift began at 3:00PM, but I showed up anyway
because I had nothing else to do and wanted to do something.
Tuesday (January 27) was the twelfth day of my internship,
and scanning finally took place. Several dozen pages from the newspaper book I
mentioned a couple weeks ago were scanned, cropped, and exported. Me, Nathan
Gregg, and Dylan Gilberg worked in a random order in the process, which funnily
enough, led to two discussions. One was why the latter had a beard, and the
other concerned whether it was necessary to include so much detail in the blogs
posts. At one point, we also saw someone on the field where the old Colburn
Hall Building used to stand playing what appeared to be an acoustic guitar.
Wednesday (January 28) was the thirteenth day of my
internship, and I finally got those snacks for the Center for Humanities and
Digital Research (CHDR) that I mentioned last week, specifically fruit snacks
(mixed fruit and berry) and an assortment of Nabisco products, each having its
own box. Also, two people needed help with dissembling a metal frame which was
accomplished with me and the other team members. Other than that, Jack was
trained in operating the scanner and there was a page count issue at one point,
which took a bit of time to fix.
Thursday (January 29) was the fourteenth day of my
internship, and Dylan explained to me that in order to get a good grade on the
evaluation, one of the things that needed to be included in the blog posts was
an evaluation of some ads that were scanned the week of a particular post. I
asked him if this applied to next week and onwards due to the aforementioned
scanner errors, and it appeared that I was correct. Over than that, the day was
rather uneventful.
Friday (January 30) was the fifteenth day of my internship,
and I was not in the office due to my schedule, which finally had that lab I
mentioned last week start. I should have chosen an earlier one, 0013 from 10:30AM-11:20AM,
0014 from 11:30AM-12:20PM, or 0015 from 12:30PM-1:20PM, but the process felt so
new to me as it was the first time I had a lab since I switched majors as
detailed a couple weeks ago.
Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
