Week 2 – 01/19/2026 to 01/23/2026

Welcome to the second week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I got sick and was not able to do much of anything.

Monday (January 19) was the sixth day of my internship, and the office was closed as a result of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Tuesday (January 20) was the seventh day of my internship, and I looked at three important emails. The first one was sent yesterday at 8:52PM by Dr. Scot French, and he brought up our schedules (which were made in LettuceMeet through means of a poll thanks to Caitlin Box) while also warning us of his unavailability for a bit due to a conference. He did hope though that Nathan Gregg and Dylan Gilberg would find someone (possibly a GRA named Justin) besides Dr. Mike Shier (who did turn out to be our director for the project) and Dr. Brook Miller (our associate director) to help out with the previously aforementioned scanner error I described last week. The second one was sent today at 12:52PM by Nathan, and he brought up Dylan’s attempt to contact Justin before an unrelated meeting tomorrow at 3:30PM. He also sent a scanner guide which was very useful and lengthy. The third one was also sent today at 3:17PM by Dr. Miller, and he brought up his availability for Thursday. During my shift, a general meeting for Phi Alpha Theta (which is UCF’s history honor society) took place starting at 4:30PM, and I overheard the entire thing.

Wednesday (January 21) was the eighth day of my internship, and I put all of my stopwatch recordings into a single Word document because an Excel document with timestamps (as I expect from experience with HIS4944-C001 (Internship in Public History) for Section C (12 Weeks)) has not been created yet for me and the other team members. The unrelated meeting took place while I did that, and more snacks were needed for the Center for Humanities and Digital Research (CHDR).

Thursday (January 22) was the ninth day of my internship, and I met with the other team members. Among other things, our schedules were brought up again, we discovered that the scanner error was actually related to an issue with the company that developed it, and accounts were made for CHDR Inventory in an attempt to fix said error.

Friday (January 23) was the tenth day of my internship, and I was not in the office due to my schedule, which will be more reasonable starting next week because of a lab for CGS2545C-0001 (Database Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks). My specific section and time for that is 0017 from 3:30PM to 4:20PM, which will change slightly to somewhat depending on the required work for each week.

Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
