Week 5 - 02/09/2026 to 02/13/2026
Welcome to the fifth week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I watched Super Bowl LX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots around 6:30PM on Sunday (February 8) at my brother's apartment. Seattle won 29-13 after a dominant performance from Kenneth Walker III (Running Back), which gave me despair as I wanted New England to win.
Monday (February 9) was the twenty-first day of my internship, and after Dylan Gilberg scanned around one-hundred newspaper pages, I did the same thing, although a panic attack from CGS2545C-0001 (Database Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks) regarding the lab occurred before my shift. Thankfully, everything turned out okay in the end, which extended to my scan work. A meeting with the other team members was scheduled for Wednesday as well.
Tuesday (February 10) was the twenty-second day of my internship, and after Nathan Gregg allowed me to choose between metadata and scan work, I chose the former. Compared to yesterday, it was far less stressful, especially near the end of my shift when not many people were around. One interesting ad I noticed was on page two of the 7/29/1954 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised items for going to the beach, 'Smith Corner Store' being the advertiser, as it reminded me of Clearwater Beach.
Wednesday (February 11) was the twenty-third day of my internship, and I had to do more metadata work because of a non-team meeting (the team meeting being complicated by schedules) that took place at 3:30PM. Thankfully, it was worth it as another column ('Folder') had been added to the spreadsheet in order to measure what day a particular newspaper page had been scanned, and I quickly filled those boxes out. My UCF Microsoft Office account needed to have some of the scanned newspaper pages unlinked as well, which was a success and made me wonder whether viewing them much faster in my account would be more efficient in filling in those boxes and lines. Near the end of my shift, Dr. Scot French's graduate public history class had to use the Center for Humanities and Digital Research (CHDR). Another interesting ad I noticed was on page twelve of the 8/5/1954 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised 24-hour service for gasworks, 'Florida Gas & Fuel Company Inc.' being the advertiser, as it reminded me of the drop-off in 24-hour service worldwide because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Thursday (February 12) was the twenty-fourth day of my internship, and a runny nose caused me to focus on metadata work instead of scan work. I did fill in many lines though.
Friday (February 13) was the twenty-fifth day of my internship, and I had my first exam for CGS2545C, alongside my third lab which was held online like last week because of the flooding situation. I think the exam went okay because of the review I did for it over the past nine-or-so days. Unless something changes, Valentine's Day will likely be very boring.
Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
