Week 7 - 02/23/2026 to 02/27/2026
Welcome to the seventh week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I participated in an adventure race on Saturday (February 21) with two other people where we accidentally went in the wrong direction at one point.
Monday (February 23) was the thirty-first day of my internship, and the first day that I worked until 6:00PM as part of my hour adjustments from last week. Early on, I decided to do metadata work and filled in a lot of lines before my shift ended. I was also very tired and moved much slower with my progress than usual. I ended up doing okay on my first exam for CGS2545C-0001 (Database Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks) despite the runny nose, scoring a 66 out of 100. An extra credit session was offered by the professor as well, which helped me relax a bit.
Tuesday (February 24) was the thirty-second day of my internship, and I did scan work without needing any help after asking Nathan Gregg whether he had scanned any newspaper pages before I arrived at the Center for Humanities and Digital Research (CHDR). An issue with exporting and uploading the scanned pages to Microsoft Teams from last week was finally resolved as well. One interesting ad I noticed was on page sixteen of the 12/12/1957 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised jury duty, 'Board of County Commissioners of Volusia County' being the advertiser, as it seemed very odd to advertise something like that on a newspaper page.
Wednesday (February 25) was the thirty-third day of my internship, and I did more metadata work. It was also the first time in a while that more than three team members were in the CHDR at the same time. Besides me and Nathan, Dylan Gilberg and Jack Johnston did work and talked about missed newspaper pages when it comes to scan work. At the beginning of my shift, I briefly considered adding questions to my future blog posts but decided against that after realizing I could not come up with any good ideas. I also finally reached the scan work from this semester. Another interesting ad I noticed was on page eleven of the 12/8/1955 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised repairs for vehicles such as brake work and oil changes, 'Montpelier's Beachside Gulf Station' being the advertiser, as it reminded me of Danny's Complete Auto Repair in my hometown of Safety Harbor, Florida.
Thursday (February 26) was the thirty-fourth day of my internship, and at one point, I did metadata work in the hallway because multiple talks occurred in the CHDR. Once my shift ended, I went to the UCF Recreational and Wellness Center (RWC) Park. You see, I participate in the Co-Recreational Thursday 6:00PM-8:40PM UCF Intramural Flag Football League every Thursday. Last week, I even got an MVP award for a game that my team was supposed to play against Masters, who forfeited when none of their players showed up.
Friday (February 27) was the thirty-fifth day of my internship, and I was not in the office due to my schedule. Another personal story from my time as a History (B.A.) major comes from when I took a walk at the Towers at Knights Plaza on August 22, 2024. It felt like an adventure after the previous three days involved a bit of stress, though I had to take cover under an umbrella due to the poor weather.
Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
