Week 11 - 03/23/2026 to 03/27/2026
Welcome to the eleventh week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I had to temporarily readjust my hours on Sunday (March 22) to the minimum amount because of a large workload from my other courses.
Monday (March 23) was the fifty-first day of my internship, and I was not in the office due to my schedule. However, I managed to get a lot of work done and even took the time to go on a few short walks before and after a lecture for CGS2545C-0001 (Database Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks). Speaking of that course, I ended up doing okay on my second exam, scoring a 64 out of 100, though an extra credit session looked unlikely.
Tuesday (March 24) was the fifty-second day of my internship, and the first of two five-hour shifts from 12:00PM to 5:00PM. I did metadata work while taking a thirty-minute coffee break from 2:15PM to 2:45PM. One interesting ad I noticed was on page two of the 10/10/1957 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised flowers, 'Musson's Florists' being the advertiser, as the business was not located in Florida, but instead Georgia.
Wednesday (March 25) was the fifty-third day of my internship, and I was again not in the office due to my schedule. I spent a few hours in the John C. Hitt Library for homework, specifically the Reading Room on the fourth floor. When that floor was renovated (one semester earlier than expected), it was the only area to largely stay intact. I actually remember my time there before said renovation as well.
Thursday (March 26) was the fifty-fourth day of my internship, and the second of two five-hour shifts from 12:00PM to 5:00PM. I did more metadata work, this time with a coffee break from 3:00PM to 3:30PM. Another interesting ad I noticed was on page thirteen of the 12/12/1957 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised low down payments for homes, 'Edgewater Acres' being the advertiser, as the prices ranged from $5,475 to $10,900 in an era with higher tax rates.
Friday (March 27) was the fifty-fifth day of my internship, and I was again not in the office due to my schedule. Two personal stories from my time as a History (B.A.) major come from the leadup to and aftermath of Hurricane Milton (2024). The first story involved me having to quickly rush to my old apartment at Knights Circle from Oviedo Mall on Monday (October 7) in order to lend my car to my brother so he could pick up one of his friends from the airport. It took place amongst a very stressful situation due to the oncoming hurricane. The second story involved me walking around the apartment complex at night on Thursday (October 10) after I returned there and bought a chicken tender sub from Publix. The atmosphere felt surreal as several buildings had lost power due to the hurricane, and looking back, one photo I took felt like a liminal space.
Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
