Week 8 - 03/02/3036 to 03/06/2026

Welcome to the eighth week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I had an early birthday celebration on Sunday (March 1) because a two-part exam for CGS3269-0001 (Computer Architecture Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks) took place before and after my actual birthday on Thursday (March 5).

Monday (March 2) was the thirty-sixth day of my internship, and I did metadata work because Jack Johnston was doing scan work when I entered the Center for Humanities and Digital Research (CHDR) before my shift started, something that was beneficial as I was quite tired.

Tuesday (March 3) was the thirty-seventh day of my internship, and things were more stressful than usual because I got a 0 for an assignment in CGS3269 and needed to fill up on gas due to the Iran conflict. I asked Nathan Gregg who our director supervisor is for the internship, and he said Dr. Mike Shier. I needed this information for the midterm evaluation form. Despite the stress, I was able to scan sixty newspaper pages, a number that would have been higher under different circumstances.

Wednesday (March 4) was the thirty-eighth day of my internship, and I did more metadata work to starve off boredom. Speaking of that exam, I think the first part went okay, as despite a hectic start, I was able to pull through by completing and uploading my answers before the 10:35AM deadline. My 0 for the assignment was corrected to a 100 as well. One interesting ad I noticed was on page two of the 12/6/1956 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised Christmas cards, house decorations, and toys, 'Beach Variety Store' being the advertiser, as it seemed weird to have a beach store selling Christmas stuff.

Thursday (March 5) was the thirty-ninth day of my internship, and my birthday took place. Everyone wished me a happy birthday, and I did more scan work after a presentation in the CHDR was cancelled. Another interesting ad I noticed was on page three of the 7/17/1958 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised setting up a savings account, 'Bank of New Smyrna' being the advertiser, as the baby used had an expression that looked like a middle-aged man.

Friday (March 6) was the fortieth day of my internship, and I was not in the office due to my schedule. I think the second part of that exam went better than the first part as well because I managed my time much better. The lab for this week was only for the second project (basically an assignment), but for now, I would like to bring up alternate timelines because they are fascinating. I have come up with some related to my academic journey at UCF, and you can see them below.

    1. What if I always majored in History (B.A.)?

    2. What if I resided in Hercules, Neptune, or Nike for my Freshman year?

    3. What if Pegasus Penthouse never closed down?

    4. What if All Knight Study @ Arena and/or All Knight Study @ Ferrell Commons never closed down?

    5. What if I failed CIS3360-0001 (Security in Computing) for Section 1 (16 Weeks) in the Spring 2024 Semester?

    6. What if I switched to Computer Science (B.S.) or Information Technology (B.S.) instead of History (B.A.)?

    7. What if I chose a different minor to accompany History (B.A.) instead of Information Technology?

Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
