Week 13 - 04/06/2026 to 04/10/2026
Welcome to the thirteenth week of my internship under the New Smyrna Museum of History (NS MOH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In-between Friday and Monday, I was at my brother's apartment on Sunday (April 5) with him and one of his friends. I also studied for another two-part exam for CGS3269-0001 (Computer Architecture Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks) on Wednesday (April 8) and Friday (April 10).
Monday (April 6) was the sixty-first day of my internship, and I did scan work after Nathan Gregg scanned more than one-hundred newspaper pages. While he was doing that, I made sure to get as much homework done as possible so I would be less stressed. Although my shift was much more tedious than usual, I did not have any major issues throughout.
Tuesday (April 7) was the sixty-second day of my internship, and I did metadata work. My shift was only two hours because of more office hours for CGS2545C-0001 (Database Concepts) for Section 1 (16 Weeks). One interesting ad I noticed was on page one of the 9/25/1958 edition of 'The Pelican' that advertised a land auction for part of an island, 'City of New Smyrna Beach' being the advertiser, as the format was extremely informal, and it was on the front page of that edition.
Wednesday (April 8) was the sixty-third day of my internship, and I did more scan work after Nathan and Dylan Gilberg scanned and cropped around ninety-eight newspaper pages. While they were doing that, I made sure to get as much homework done as possible so I would be less stressed again. I think the first part of that exam went pretty good because despite a couple mishaps, I was more prepared this time around.
Thursday (April 9) was the sixty-fourth day of my internship, and I did more metadata work. I was on edge for my entire shift as I was waiting for my FACILITATION Primary Source assignment grade for HIS4150-0W61 (History and Historians) for Section 1 (16 Weeks). If the grade was good, then it would be a huge morale booster, but if not, I would be a lot more stressed from now on regarding my other assignments in that course. One interesting announcement I noticed on page seven of the 10/16/1958 edition of 'The Pelican' was for a fish dinner hosted by the 'American Legion,' as it reminded me of an outpost they have in my hometown of Safety Harbor, Florida.
Friday (April 10) was the sixty-fifth day of my internship, and I was not in the office due to my schedule. I think the second part of that exam went better than the first part as well because I was more focused. A personal story from before my time as a History (B.A.) major comes from my first exam for MAC2311C-0014 (Calculus with Analytic Geometry I) for Section 1 (16 Weeks) on February 2, 2023. I had spent so much time studying for that exam, and I only got a 53%. However, it turned out that the class average was a 30%, and I was praised for my higher score. Unfortunately, my score was basically cut in half for the second exam though.
Have a good day and thank you for reading this blog.
